Thursday's Child has far to go...

There’s always one child.
The one who struggles with writing. Finds reading difficult. Doesn’t quite “fit” the usual measures of success.

But then languages comes along… and something clicks. They see a jigsaw of language that connects, they take a chance, they smile.
Confidence builds. Participation changes. They find their thing.
Now here’s the uncomfortable bit:
If languages is weak, inconsistent, or sidelined… That opportunity disappears.
Not for the majority.
For that one child.
We talk a lot about inclusion, but inclusion isn’t just support. It’s opportunity.
And for some pupils, languages is exactly that. The opportunity to grow, the opportunity to feel like learning made sense today, the opportunity to extend the world far beyond what they thought they could see...
So I mean it when I say:
Teachers - If you do not have a dedicated space for languages on your timetable, that is almost like saying you do not have a dedicated space for that one child to grow.
This is more than just language learning... it's personal development, it's opportunity, and it's your job to make it a priority.
